Metamorphosis

Metamorphosis

“…Mendelssohn Club has never sounded better…” –Music Critic, David Patrick Stearns, The Philadelphia Inquirer

“Their singing is by turns robust and sensitive, and they handle these challenging contemporary pieces with dexterity and enthusiasm.”
– Music Journalist, Joshua Rosenblum, Opera News

Under the dynamic leadership of artistic director Alan Harler, Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia has demonstrated a major commitment to new music, commissioning nearly fifty choral works over the past two decades.  Now for the first time in the 139-year history of the chorus, Mendelssohn Club has compiled its first major recording of all original commission performances in METAMORPHOSIS.  METAMORPHOSIS features three original works by contemporary American composers based in Philadelphia, Andrea Clearfield, Jennifer Higdon and James Primosch.  All three works were commissioned by Mendelssohn Club and premiered in concert with the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia over the past six years.
