Preparing for the audition
Singers are expected to have prior choral experience and possess some degree of sight-singing ability. Prepare a work of your choice that demonstrates your vocal range. Any genre of classical music is acceptable such as an art song, an aria from an opera or oratorio, or your voice part from a choral work. An accompanist will be provided. Please bring a copy of your music for the accompanist. The audition will also include some sight-reading and tonal memory exercises.
Professional Core of Paid Singers – NO CORE AUDITION REQUESTS BEING ACCEPTED AT THIS TIME
Mendelssohn Club has a professional core of paid singers. Core singers experience exciting seasons with masterworks, commissions, premieres, and adventurous programming. In addition to service as a professionally paid chorister, core singers are also expected to serve as section leaders and positive members of our singing community. Some solo opportunities may be available. Core singers must be available for a majority of our season concerts in order to be considered. Prior professional choral experience is required. Not all requests will receive an audition. In addition to submitting an audition request, core singers must also send a copy of their resume or CV to firstname.lastname@example.org. You will not be considered for any audition if you do not submit your resume.
