Victory at Sea

On Sunday, October 12, 2025, Mendelssohn Chorus had the profound honor of performing as part of Homecoming 250's "Victory at Sea" concert, celebrating the 250th anniversary of the founding of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. Originally planned as an outdoor event, the concert was moved indoors to Temple University's Performing Arts Center due to inclement weather and featured headliner Patti LaBelle.

Thirty members from our chorus performed three patriotic selections alongside the U.S. Navy Band and U.S. Navy Sea Chanters: Verdi's iconic "Anvil Chorus" from Il Trovatore, "America the Beautiful," and Sousa's beloved "Stars and Stripes Forever." In a distinguished honor, Artistic Director & Conductor Dominick DiOrio was the only civilian conductor featured in this concert, leading the choruses and The Navy Band in Verdi's "Anvil Chorus." Additionally, and to our delight, the chorus will accompanied headliner Patti LaBelle in her own arrangement of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”.
